Airport Ambiance Outdoors: Frankfurt Airport opens a roof terrace in the transit zone of Terminal 1

You’ve dropped off your bags and cleared the security check … and still have a few minutes to wait before boarding begins. Time to catch your breath! And now you can do it in style: the transit zone of Frankfurt Airport’s Terminal 1 has just gained a roof terrace. Besides fresh air, it boasts a spectacular view of the bustling activity at Germany’s largest aviation hub: ground handling, takeoffs and landings.

If you’re drawn to take a closer look, there’s a telescope you can use for free.
A stand provides information about what’s going on down on the apron. And a monitor screen shows the weather report for the next few days, straight from the German Weather Service. Comfortable seating surrounded by plants rounds out the attractions.

Covering an area of 138 square meters, the “Open Air Deck” (as it’s officially called) is well worth a visit. Here you’ll find fresh air and natural light – from the south, no less – to help overcome jetlag. After spending hours cooped up in a jet, the effect is truly liberating. The roof terrace is open daily from 6.30 a.m. to 9.30 p.m. and can be accessed by all passengers in the non-Schengen zone. Fraport invested about €1.5 million in the project.

Visitors to the airport can naturally also enjoy the panoramic view of the apron and airfield from the  Visitors’ Terrace, which is located on Level 4 (next to the Food Plaza) in the publicly accessible part of Terminal 2.

The airport’s operator, Fraport, coined the slogan “Gute Reise! We make it happen” to stress its commitment to meeting the individual needs and wishes of travelers and visitors. It regularly develops and introduces new services and facilities to continue improving the customer experience at Germany’s foremost transportation hub.

Passengers and visitors can find more information about the wide range of services at Frankfurt Airport on the  airport website, at the  Service Shop,  and via Frankfurt Airport’s social media channels on  Twitter,  Facebook,  Instagram,  andYouTube.
