Passenger screening company FraSec Luftsicherheit GmbH and Sasse Group, a provider of facility services, have formed a new strategic partnership in the area of aviation security. As part of the agreed partnership, Fraport Security Services GmbH (a wholly-owned Fraport subsidiary) will sell a portion of the shares it holds in FraSec Luftsicherheit GmbH to Sasse Group. The new partnership was formed with the common goal of maintaining the highest quality standards in aviation security, while further enhancing processes to improve efficiency.
Subject to approval by the relevant competition authorities and the boards of both companies, FraSec Fraport Security GmbH will sell, in a first step, 26 percent of its shares in FraSec Luftsicherheit to Sasse Group (effective January 1, 2022). In a second step one year later, a further 25 percent of the shares will be transferred to Sasse (effective January 1, 2023). As a result, Sasse Group will then hold a 51 percent majority stake in FraSec Luftsicherheit.
Founded on July 1, 2021, FraSec Luftsicherheit GmbH was spun off from the FraSec parent company within the scope of a corporate restructuring program. Since then, the passenger screening company has been bundling all aviation security services required under Section 5 of Germany’s Aviation Security Act (LuftSiG). Currently, more than 1,500 people are employed at FraSec Luftsicherheit, ensuring high quality in aviation security at Frankfurt Airport and at Stuttgart Airport in southern Germany.
By entering the new strategic partnership, FraSec Luftsicherheit is strengthening its competitive position for the future. This is particularly true in light of Fraport’s planned takeover of responsibility from the German Ministry of the Interior (BMI) for conducting passenger security checks at Frankfurt Airport. Effective January 1, 2023, Fraport will assume the management of passenger screening at FRA. This will also include the selection of service providers to be contracted for performing the security checks. Thanks to its new ownership structure, FraSec Luftsicherheit will be able to participate in future tender processes at Frankfurt Airport within the framework of German competition law.
FraSec board chairman, Martin Budweth, explained: “Our aim was to find a strong and competent partner to further develop our aviation-security subsidiary in a successful and sustainable way. Sasse Group has been a reliable business partner of our Fraport parent company for many years. Therefore, we are very pleased that we could enter into this new and close partnership with Sasse Group. We will benefit from the company’s extensive expertise in providing personnel-driven services.”
Fraport AG’s Executive Board Member and Executive Director Aviation and Infrastructure, Dr. Pierre Dominique Prümm, said: “Thanks to this partnership between Fraport and Sasse, we are optimally positioned to achieve our common goals and visions. We are confident that FraSec Luftsicherheit will become even more successful in the security-services market with the management of Sasse Group. In the future, Fraport AG intends to focus fully on managing and steering aviation security operations at Frankfurt Airport.”
Thomas Jessberger, Managing Director Aviation at Sasse Group, added: “Today, efficiency and quality are becoming increasingly important in all areas of aviation. For the industry, aviation safety and security is always the top priority. We are pleased to contribute our broad airport expertise in further developing FraSec Luftsicherheit GmbH.”
