Together with the Frankfurt Airport Rescue Services, the Emergency Center’s physicians provide emergency medical care in the airport’s operational area and the defined “rescue area 20”, adjacent to the airport.

Rescue area 20, as defined by the City of Frankfurt, comprises the Gateway Gardens business district and parts of the highways surrounding the airport, including Germany’s busiest highway intersection (Frankfurter Kreuz).

Since the early 2000s, automated external defibrillators (AEDs) have been installed in the terminals in such a way that they can be reached from any point within a very short time.

In the fight against sudden cardiac death in particular, every minute counts. The main cause of this is ventricular fibrillation, which can be treated in many cases with the use of a defibrillator. The electrical impulses emitted by the defibrillator can make the heart beat in its correct rhythm again.

AED devices have been developed so that anyone can use them – even without medical expertise.  In recent years, this has saved many lives.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank every first-aider using an AED!
